In February 2020, our president Patrick Pelliccione along with key members of the International Cheese Council of Canada (ICCC) traveled to The World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland with the goal to improve the workings of Canadian cheese importers with reference to the country’s current Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the European Union (EU).

The trip was a successful one: a long week of meetings brought to light the injustices imposed by the Canadian government – including a tariff rate quota (TRQ) of 16,000,000 kg for EU cheeses – to Canada’s world trading partners.

This will result in further action taken by Canada’s partners to ensure an increase in the importing of EU cheese at more competitive prices for Canadian consumers.

The ICCC seeks to support the Canadian government’s progressive trade agenda and opposes restrictions on Canadian cheese imports.
